Description Technical Specs Extended Information

This is the sturdiest compact grill you’ll find at any price! If you don’t agree, we’ll give you your money back with no questions asked. Not only can you attach it to your trailer hitch for easy transport, you can also use it for gourmet-quality cooking. Our damper design lets you fine-tune the fire to suit your needs. Load this rascal with a handful of lump charcoal and you can choose from a roaring hot fire for searing steaks or an indirect cross-draft fire for slow roasting a whole chicken. This grill is big enough to easily cook up to a dozen burger patties at a time, a whole chicken, four nice steaks, or a Grillipede load of peppers or drumettes. During demos we’ve cooked a half dozen sausage dogs with grilled onions plus twenty five drumettes all in a single batch.

You can use the grill with its integrated base for table-top or camp site cooking, or use the optional Hitching Post trailer hitch adapter for tailgating fun. What makes the Traveller the best professional grade compact grill on the market?

  • Grill body, dampers and handles made from restaurant-grade stainless steel
  • Entire grill and lid assembly is made of 16 gauge stainless steel
  • All-stainless fasteners
  • Integrated base is super rugged (see below)
  • Heavy duty stainless steel lift-off hinges for super easy cleaning or hibachi style cooking
  • Corner air intake holes in base enable easy hose-out and cleaning of grill interior
  • Unique damper system lets you adjust grilling environment with a single slide lever
  • Rugged pre-seasoned cast iron cooking surface
  • Matching cast iron charcoal grate
  • Over 200 square inches of cooking area
  • Flat lid design lets you cook large items over the whole surface, not just in the middle
  • Handles feature four (4) slots for utensil storage and ease of cooking
  • Flat-top design gives you a large exterior warming surface that’s perfect for buns, corn or meat

Over 800 pounds standing on our grill. DON'T try this with other brands!

The Traveller isn’t for everyone. Each grill is made by hand here in the United States. At a tad over 50 pounds it has the heft that you would expect from a professional cooking tool—and the ruggedness that you won’t find with the wimpy product that are made in China. Compare our 16 gauge all-stainless construction with other grills. We also use premium cast iron grates instead of cheap chromed or coated wire grates like you’ll find elsewhere.

The Traveller is compact and easy to transport inside or outside of your vehicle. By using the Hitchin’ Post trailer hitch adapter you can take the grill anywhere and cook whenever you’re ready!

About the name…
Yes, we spelled it that way on purpose. We were inspired by “travellers” that we feel have a few traits in common with our grill. Traveller (spelled in the British manner with the double “L”) was the name of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s beloved horse. A contemporary of Lee once described Traveller as being “greatly admired in camp” for his “high spirit, bold carriage, and muscular strength” among other attributes.

“Traveller” is also a venerated Southern term used to describe paper or plastic cups that are dispensed to savvy bar patrons so that they may slyly convey partially-consumed adult beverages away from their favorite drinking establishments while on foot. As in, “Thomas, would you set me up with a traveller for my Jack & Coke so I can go check on my barbecue.”

In modern times, Irish Travellers are often linked to rural areas in the Carolinas and other southern states. Although frequently misunderstood and sometimes maligned, this group is noted for their outdoor cookery skills and are widely credited with the invention of the “Irish kettle” in the 1800s. The small, rugged, cleverly-designed Irish kettle allows the operator to boil water in as little as 3-5 minutes using only twigs or dry grass for fuel. The Irish kettle design is respected for its toughness, simplicity and ease of operation in even the worst weather.

Traveller is also the name of a unique role-playing game developed in the 1970s. The original edition featured compact rule booklets stored in a small, sturdy box. Yeah, that one’s a bit of a stretch.

And below is just pure foolishness!

Traveller Grill September 20, 2009

I used my new grill for the first time this weekend.  Quickly gets hot and maintains the heat, which allowed me to saute peppers and onions on a cast iron griddle. Had enough room for 30 chicken drumettes.  Stout design prevents grill from rattling around in the back of the car.  I am looking forward to using it again next weekend.

The grill cooks fast and evenly. It is great for steaks or burgers. It is heavy. It came in a wooden crate instead ofa cardboard box, which gives you some idea what you are dealing with. You can use it as a step stool for helping small kids get into the back of the truck when you aren't cooking on it. I have pictures to prove it. Did I mention that it is heavy? This is the beefiest cooking item I have ever bought. The 1950s industrial look has grown on me. It is a pain to take the grates out but once you do it a few times you get a method that works. I figure if I fall on hard times I can sell this at the scrap yard and get most of my money back. I am a very satisfied customer!

HOLIDAY ALL-STAR July 10, 2009

WE USED GRILL ON 4TH OF JULY COOKING FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT STATE PARK. WE ROASTED A DOZEN EARS OF CORN USING A FEW SMALL PIECES OF LUMP CHARCOAL. WE KEPT DAMPER MOSTLY CLOSED AND WERE ABLE TO KEEP CORN FROM SCORCHING. WE LATER COOKED CHICKEN AND THEN TOOK OFF TOP TO GRILL AMBERJACK OVER HIGH HEAT. WE HAD CAMPERS ASK US ABOUT GRILL. THEY HAD ANOTHER HITCH TYPE GRILL WHICH WAS BIGGER AND COST MORE BUT SEEMED SORT OF WIMPY. VERY PLEASED WITH OURS.

TAKES A BEATING AND COOKS GOOD May 7, 2009
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from United States
I saw the truck vid and had to get one to see for myself. It cooks good and is crazy heavy-duty. I didn't buy the hitch adapter at first but wanted to get it later. I gave it 4 stars. I think this grill will last longer than my $900 gas grilll.

good features April 28, 2009

I was unsure about the cube shape. We got it to use on our porch full-time, which is good cause it is a little too heavy for my wife to want to move it around a bunch. We have already cooked chicken(twice), pork, and steaks on it. The cast iron grate doesn't let food fall thru. The weird lid lets you cook tall stuff like a whole chicken even though its a small grill.
